Family Tybee Island Beach Vacation

If you are looking for a good family vacation, Tybee Island, Georgia is a good choice for family. The closest city to it is Savannah which is worth a visit in its own right.

However, no matter how much time you have, you could easily spend the bulk of our vacation on the island itself, especially if you like the beach. When it comes to your family, Tybee Island beach vacation rentals are much appreciated.

There is nothing more relaxing than spending the time on the island renting your own personal cottage. Of course, you could also stay in a hotel. The first “Days Inn” hotel actually started here. It was later franchised.

There are a lot of things that you can do on the island. It is has a rich history so you and your family can spend some time exploring that. You can also spend some time on the beach or take in some of the other sites. Here is some information about some of the other things you can do on the island.

Tybee Island Light Station

There are several lighthouses that originated in the 1700’s that are scattered throughout the United States. Of those, only a few are still in operation. Tybee Island has one of them.

It had a rocky history and suffered damage and injury over the centuries, such as the damage inflicted on it by a major earthquake. Now, it is a protected by the Tybee Island Historical Society and is powered by electricity and open to the public.

Battery Garland and Tybee Island Museum

The two historical sites are cohabitate the same space. The museum is actually in the Battery Garland. The Tybee Island Museum focuses on helping people learn about the island’s history. The museum itself is actually in the old battery that formerly housed a gun that was twelve inches and had a long range.

For Pulaski National Monument

Fort Pulaski actually isn’t in Tybee Island, but it is close enough to be worth a look. This is an important fort if you are interested in the Civil War.

This was the place where the Union Army successfully tested the rifled canon which meant that they could penetrate brick structures. It was originally build sometime after the War of 1812. It is located on Cockspur Island, which is also near Savannah.

Other Island Sites

There are other things to do on Tybee Island. If you are purely interested in the beach, chances are you’ll spend a lot of your time at the Tybee Island Pier. There is also a Marine and Science museum that is worth a look.

In addition, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to try and browse through. If you want to spend a relaxing family vacation at the beach, Tybee Island, Georgia is a good choice.

 

You can spend the whole time relaxing at the beach on the island and taking in the island’s sites, or you can visit neighboring islands, or even explore Savannah.
